Rapid and erratic electrical firing in the brain is what causes seizures. This may result in momentary anomalous behaviours, movements (such as jerky, alternately stiffened arms and legs), sensations, or loss of consciousness or an altered degree of consciousness. Don't try to halt the jerking or restrain the person. Preventing kids from hurting themselves is the most important thing. Unless the person is in danger, do not move them. Remove any sharp or unstable objects from the area, place something soft under their head, and remain by their side. They have no chance of swallowing their tongue. Make sure there is no liquid or vomit that could choke them, and avoid putting anything in their mouth. Timing the seizure and monitoring their respiration are important.
